Surface Preparation & Painting
The service life of fabricated equipment depends on its coating as much as on its steel. Simgetek carries out surface preparation and painting in its own facilities, in a dedicated area of 1,000 m².
Blasting, coating and curing are therefore planned as part of the production sequence, not as a step handed over to an outside applicator at the end of the job.
Surface Preparation
- Automatic blasting lines — conveyor-fed vertical and horizontal machines with abrasive recovery, used for the continuous preparation of plate and section material
- Manual blast booth — an insulated, enclosed booth of approx. 438 m³, allowing completed equipment and large assemblies to be prepared in one piece
- Portable wet abrasive blasting — for site work and for parts that cannot be taken into the booth
- High-pressure hot and cold water cleaning — to remove contamination before coating
Paint and Coating Application
- Airless spray application with pneumatic and electric high-pressure units
- Mechanical paint mixing to achieve the right homogeneity before application
- Application of multi-coat systems in line with the project coating specification
- Application planned with regard to ambient temperature, humidity and dew point conditions
Surface Treatment of Stainless Steel
- Stainless steel parts are processed separately from carbon steel work, which protects the passive surface layer and prevents cross-contamination.
- Cleaning and passivation of stainless steel surfaces
- Segregation of stainless steel and carbon steel work areas and hand tools
Coating Quality Control
Coating work is verified at every stage, not only on completion:
- Surface roughness measurement after blasting
- Soluble salt testing of the prepared surface
- Digital dry film thickness measurement
- Holiday (porosity) testing of the applied coating
- Monitoring of ambient conditions during application
Measurement results are recorded and provided as part of the project quality dossier.
Why It Is Done In-House
- Fabrication and coating are scheduled together; delays caused by outside applicators are eliminated
- Surface defects are found and corrected while the equipment is still in the workshop
- The risk of damage during transport to and from an outside coating facility is eliminated
- Coating records become part of the same quality documentation as the fabrication
