Service & Maintenance

Plants in operation face a different problem from new installations: the work has to be completed within a given shutdown window, on equipment that is already in service.

Simgetek carries out maintenance, repair and revamp work on this basis, deploying the same engineering, fabrication and machining resources it uses to build new equipment.

Scope of Service

  • Condition assessment and dimensional survey of existing equipment
  • Reverse engineering and preparation of drawings where original documentation is not available
  • Dismantling, repair and reassembly of equipment
  • Replacement of worn or damaged sections
  • Spare part fabrication
  • Machining and balancing of rotating parts
  • On-site welding, weld inspection and non-destructive testing
  • Support during testing, cold and hot commissioning and return to service
  • Repairs and alterations to ASME-certified equipment under the National Board R stamp

Revamp and Modernisation

Revamp scopes often go beyond repair, covering capacity increases, the replacement of complete equipment sections and the fabrication of new units with up-to-date materials:

  • Replacement of heat exchangers and pressure equipment in operating process plants
  • Revamp of storage tanks, including dismantling and re-fabrication
  • Rehabilitation of equipment such as rotary kilns, including shell replacement, associated welding and NDT
  • Revamp of fired equipment such as water bath heaters, including fireboxes and tube bundles
  • Capacity increase work in existing production plants

Project Experience

  • Hydro turbine maintenance and repair; impeller, head cover, runner, guide vanes, draft tube, wear ring and gland work, together with balancing, testing and commissioning
  • Rotary kiln rehabilitation; tyre and shell replacement, associated welding and NDT, followed by cold and hot commissioning
  • Heat exchanger revamp at a fertiliser complex; fabrication, dismantling and re-erection, with site testing
  • Revamp of an underground fuel-oil storage tank; dismantling, pre-fabrication and re-erection
  • Revamp of indirect water bath heater systems; fabricated in one piece in our own facilities and tested before shipment

How We Work

  • Shutdown duration is treated as the governing constraint; preparation and pre-fabrication are completed in advance
  • Replacement parts are fabricated and, where possible, trial-assembled before the shutdown begins
  • Where dismantling is not practical, machining is done on site with portable equipment
  • All repair work is documented to the same standard as new fabrication
