Pre-Fabrication
Pre-fabrication is the stage in which raw material becomes a dimensionally checked part, ready for assembly, welding or site erection. Simgetek carries out this stage entirely in-house at both of its operating fabrication plants.
Preparing material in-house keeps dimensional accuracy, material traceability and production sequencing under control from the very start. These are no longer results inherited from an outside supplier.
Scope of Pre-Fabrication Activities
- Receiving, identification and traceability of materials
- Marking, nesting and cutting plans prepared from fabrication drawings
- Cutting of plate, pipe and section materials
- Conventional machining operations
- Mobile machining operations for project sites
- Weld bevel preparation
- Cold forming of plate, pipe and section materials
- Dished head fabrication
- Pipe spool pre-fabrication
Cutting Capability
- Available cutting methods: band saw, guillotine shear, plasma cutting, laser cutting and oxy-fuel cutting
Having several cutting methods under one roof allows the most suitable process to be selected according to material grade, thickness, tolerance requirements and the expected quality of the cut surface.
Cold Forming Capability
- Plate bending, pipe bending and section bending, and press brake operations
- Dished head fabrication and weld bevel preparation
- Hydraulic dishing press: maximum pressing force 1,000 tons, max. Ø9,000 mm, 9,250 mm between columns
Our Working Ranges at a Glance
The values below are given to provide a general idea of the range covered by our pre-fabrication equipment. Project-specific limits are confirmed at the quotation stage.
Thermal cutting: oxy-fuel up to approx. 300 mm and plasma up to approx. 60 mm on CNC cutting machines; laser cutting on a wide-format machine for thin materials
- Mechanical cutting: band saw capacity up to approx. Ø1,100 mm and guillotine shearing up to approx. 16 mm thickness
- Plate bending: up to approx. 50 mm thickness over a working width of approx. 3,000 mm
- Press brake: plate bending with 400 tons of pressing capacity
- Pipe and section bending: pipe sizes from approx. 1" to 24"
- Weld bevel preparation: plate bevelling across the common thickness range; pipe bevelling up to approx. Ø1,500 mm and for wall thicknesses above 100 mm
Mobile Machining for Project Sites
In addition to work in the workshop, pre-fabrication and machining operations can also be carried out directly at project sites with portable equipment. This removes the need to dismantle large installed assemblies and bring them back.
- On-site flange face machining
- Portable pipe and plate bevelling
- Portable drilling operations
- Local weld preparation and correction work
Engineering and Software Support
Pre-fabrication runs directly from engineering output, so every part that is cut and formed matches the approved fabrication drawings exactly.
- Logictrace — sheet unfolding and nesting software
- Intergraph SmartPlant Spoolgen and Isogen — automatic piping isometrics from 3D plant design systems; the basis of pipe spool pre-fabrication
- SolidWorks — mechanical design and 3D CAD
